52 Week Challenge Week 3: Nostalgia
This was actually a fun one to take. I must admit that I did not go out and take may shots this week, but instead remembered this imaged I took late last year while visiting the lake front. That particular day, it was super cold, had just snowed, and everything was just miserable. So when I took this picture, I thought nothing of it until I decided to edit it and see where I can go.
Nostalgia is often a weird thing for me. Most people think of something to remind them of the past or of something from their lives. To me, I think more of something that looks and feels older and reminiscent of simpler times. This photo tries to invoke that though. The old time feel of it all.
52 Week Challenge Week 2: Nature
I had a few ideas and things I wanted to try for this, but unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. We were hit with rounds and round of snow and sub zero temperature which made trying to go out absolutely horrible…. So instead, I shot from inside the house with the Sony 200-600mm G telephoto lens. I was able to stay back in the house and shoot out to the poor tree outside that looked absolutely miserable in the cold.
I wasn’t satisfied with the fact that I didn’t actually go outside to do this challenge, so instead I went to the forest preserve to try to shoot some deer. Unfortunately, most of my shots came out poor with very few turning out slightly interesting. I’m still trying to get used to using the telephoto lens and discover all the tips and tricks, but for now it just seems as if all the shots have been coming out soft. I’ll experiment some more and see if I can’t improve overtime.
52 Week Challenge Week 1: Leading Lines
Leading Lines
At the start of the new year, I promised myself that I would post one new post a week to keep up with my hobby. I have fancy cool new equipment and a somewhat unique perspective, so I figured why don’t I keep it up.
This first post is dedicated to leading lines as part of a 52 week challenge I found online. I struggle with leading lines in photography mostly because I shoot what I find interesting right at the time and don’t pay attention to the composition as much as I should. Usually the photos that have a nice composition are by luck instead of a deliberate attempt. So for this week, I tried to keep focus on leading lines and try to improve my photography more.
The best example I have was from a trip to the Botanic Garden during their Lightscape festival. I found the lights to be really nice, but the crowds to be crazy busy. It also didn’t help that it was cold, wet, and snowy outside, so I was definitely a little fussy. I tried to capture the lights as they lead to another subject in the distance. With this technique I was able to focus on exactly what my subject is and to draw the eye to the end.
A New Beginning
A New Beginning
“The start of something new brings the hope of something great…”
I’ve enjoyed my photography for a while because of the freedom it gives me to enjoy and capture moments in time in our world. I’ve decided to try and take it a step further to showcase some of my work and the things that bring me joy. I’m still trying to find my voice as a photographer and an artist, but everyday is a chance to take a new step and figure it out.
